How do we fight for women's liberation today? (leaflet)

Women are paid less than men; are still blamed for rape; lap dancing clubs are sold to us as an ironic and fun night out; and only 19% of MPs are women. We are told that women have it all but women's oppression is still very much a reality. Whether it's Miss University pageants and sexism in popular culture, the Tories promising to reward marriage and traditional families through tax breaks or attacks on abortion rights, the issue of women's oppression is a central one for socialists. The reality of women's oppression and ideas about gender are deeply rooted in society. Where does this oppression come from? Is patriarchy to blame? How do we fight for sexual freedom when women's bodies are so commodified? Can men be part of the solution too? In order to celebrate International Womens Day the SWP are hosting a series of meetings to explore these questions and discuss the socialist tradition of fighting for women's liberation.
